VARANASI: The Postmaster General of the Varanasi region, Colonel Vinod Kumar, visited Chandauli, one of the aspirational districts selected by the Indian Postal Department, to promote postal services among the public.
During his visit on Wednesday, he discussed with the additional district magistrate of Chandauli, Surendra Singh, the spread of awareness about economic empowerment and financial inclusion through various postal department schemes.
Singh emphasised the promotion of various postal services and suggested identifying key locations to raise public awareness. He highlighted the necessity of making banners, brochures, and other promotional materials. He also suggested spreading postal department schemes through Anganwadi workers and public distribution system ration shops.
Colonel Vinod directed the senior superintendent of post offices to organise at least one postal meeting weekly in Chandauli district and initiate camps and fairs for opening savings accounts/IPPB accounts and postal life insurance/rural postal life insurance. He said that 16 new branch post offices were opened in remote areas of Chandauli district to provide easy access to postal services. Twenty rural postal servants were appointed in these branches.
Rajiv Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Varanasi Eastern Division, said that in the aspirational district of Chandauli, 62,790 savings accounts, 101,664 recurring deposit accounts, 4,274 monthly income scheme accounts, 24,762 Sukanya Samriddhi accounts, and 1,132 Mahila Samman Savings Certificates were opened. Over 60,000 beneficiaries of the DBT scheme in the district receive payments through doorstep banking provided by the postal department's IPPB.
The Postmaster General also visited Chandauli Sub Post Office, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Nagar Sub Post Office, and Hathiyani Branch Post Office. Discussions were also held with business organisations in Chandauli about exploring new dimensions of business growth.
