A 17-year-old boy in Gorakhpur confessed to fatally pushing his mother after an argument over money. He left her unconscious, went to school, and concealed her death from his father, a BARC scientist, for five days. The boy misled authorities and family before CCTV footage and interrogation revealed the truth. He has been sent to a shelter home.
GORAKHPUR: A 17-year-old boy, the son of an assistant scientist posted at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu, was taken into custody by the Gorakhpur police after he confessed to having pushed his mother in a fit of rage, leading to severe head injury, and leaving her unattended, which led to her death.
Police said that the boy, a student of Class 11, went to school leaving his mother in an unconscious state and did not inform his father about her death for five days.
The boy and his mother used to stay in Gorakhpur while his father was in Tamil Nadu, police said.
Additional superintendent of police (North) Jitendra Kumar Srivastava said that on Dec 3 morning, the boy's mother asked him to go to school, but he refused.
"After some time, the boy asked her to give him money after which she threw cash at him in frustration. The boy got furious and pushed her due to which she hit against a wall. She sustained head injury and fell unconscious," he said.
"The boy then went to school leaving his mother unconscious. He returned home and found her dead, after which he locked the house and went to stay at his classmate's house in the same locality," the ASP said.
He said that the boy and his mother had been at loggerheads since Dec 1, when she visited her son's school and found that he had not been attending the classes. His mother scolded him in front of his classmates and teachers.
The boy's father tried to contact his wife and when her phone went unanswered, he contacted his son. The boy misled him for a couple of days and later stopped answering his calls.
The boy's father got suspicious and asked his sister-in-law to visit his home. When she reached the house on Dec 7, she found it locked.
When the assistant scientist asked his son about the incident, he initially tried to mislead him and the police by claiming that his mother accidentally fell and died, after which left the house in panic. However, the autopsy report contradicted the minor's claims.
"The CCTV footage confirmed that no outsider entered the house. While searching the boy's room, currency notes in denominations of Rs 500, Rs 200, and Rs 100 were recovered," a police officer said.
During a two-hour interrogation by the ASP, the teenager admitted that he had pushed his mother in a fit of rage which led to her death.
SSP, Gorakhpur, Gaurav Grover said, "The boy has been sent to a shelter home. Further investigations are on in the case."
