Daltonganj: Palamu district transport office (DTO) faces the task of collecting Rs 40 crore in revenue within approximately 100 days, before the financial year concludes on March 31, 2025. According to sources, the state transport department has assigned Palamu's district transport office a revenue collection target of Rs 75 crore for this financial year.
Palamu DTO Jitendra Kumar Yadav said, "We have been given a target for Rs 75 crore revenue collection this financial year. Till December 9, our collection was around Rs 35 crore. We are striving for Rs 40 crore more."
Regarding the previous year's target, Yadav said that it was Rs 55 crore in the financial year 2023-24. He said, "We are pursuing to collect road tax. There are a large number of vehicles whose road tax is failed. We are asking the vehicle owners to pay their dues."
In Jharkhand, road tax begins at 6% of the vehicle's purchase price, excluding GST. An additional 15% charge applies, excluding GST, for vehicles priced above 15 lakh, DTO said.
"We have approached vehicle showroom owners to ensure registration for the vehicles sold. It's a hefty source of revenue," added the DTO.
Jharkhand implements green tax, which is automatically collected. Sources indicate its 10% for transport vehicles over 12 years and personal vehicles over 15 years.
Recently, chief minister Hemant Soren instructed all 24 district deputy commissioners to increase revenue collection and identify new sources of revenue generation.
