Lucknow: Lucknow won the Pt Deendayal Upadhyay Senior Women's Hockey trophy, defeating Ayodhya 3-0 in the final held at Guru Gobind Singh Sports College here on Tuesday.
Lucknow effectively countered Ayodhya's strategy in the first quarter, preventing any goal. In the second quarter, Lucknow's Ruby converted a penalty corner into a goal in the 21st minute, giving the team the lead of 1-0. Both teams focused on maintaining strong defence and no goal was scored in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Lucknow played offensively, scoring two field goals. Khushi Rathore scored in the 47th minute and in the last minute of the match, Pitambari Kumari scored a field goal, leading Lucknow to a 3-0 victory. Lucknow remained unbeaten in the tournament, not losing a single match.
MLC Pawan Singh Chauhan attended the final as the chief guest and distributed cheques among the winners and runners-up. Former Olympian Syed Ali, Asian Games gold medallist Razia Zaidi, Virendra Singh, international player Devendra Dhyan Chand, Lucknow Hockey Association secretary Avinash Srivastava, senior sports teacher Rameshwar Singh and regional sports officer Ajay Kumar Sethi were present.
