Ranchi: Water supply in various localities will be suspended for two days starting Wednesday for pipeline repair work, stated a notice issued by the Hatia division of drinking water and sanitation on Tuesday.
The department, however, hasn't made any alternative plan, but instead has urged residents in the affected localities to store sufficient water and remain patient during the maintenance work.
Executive engineer Anand Singh has confirmed that repairs are necessary due to leakages in the Hatia pipeline, particularly in the Anantpur area.
"Water supply in Kanta Toli, Church Road, Doranda Sump, Ashok Nagar Sump, and Siram Toli will remain disrupted on Wednesday and Thursday due to the repair work. The damage occurred because maintenance wasn't carried out on time, leading to worsening leaks," Singh said.
The restoration commenced on Tuesday morning using manual methods. According to Singh, "The space around the leaking area is too narrow for heavy machinery. Hence, manual repairs are the only viable option. We aim to complete the work in 24 hours, minimising inconvenience to residents."
"While the disruption is unavoidable, this effort is critical to ensuring improved water services moving forward. Residents are advised to monitor updates from the department regarding the restoration of services," said Singh. Assistant engineer Jaya Kindo said that the major leakage was detected about 10 days ago at Ananthpur area when water started seeping onto the road. "We applied for a shutdown immediately but were allotted the dates of Wednesday and Thursday for the repairs. Due to pressure, old pipes sometimes develop holes," she said. Doranda resident Rishabh Raja said, "We have already stocked up on water once we learnt about it. Nonetheless, it is inconvenient. However, it is also important fix the leaks."
