Ludhiana: While Congress released the list of candidates on Tuesday and SAD announced the list for many wards a day before, suspense prevailed over announcement of the list by ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) till Tuesday evening. Aspiring candidates had been anxiously waiting for the list to file nomination papers and start campaigning.
AAP district (Urban) president, Sharanpal Singh Makkar, who was in Chandigarh, said that the list is expected by Tuesday night. Another AAP leader said that the process of selection of candidates had concluded and there were chances of the list for the all the 95 wards being announced.
AAP sources said that family members of around four MLAs may make it to the final list.
Two of the probable candidates are former councillors who have represented their wards two times or more. One successfully contested elections last time and lost to an SAD candidate. Two might contest elections for the first time.
AAP sources said that most of the candidates are below 40 years of age. They added likely candidates include the former councillor from a posh area, who has represented her ward thrice. Another probable candidate, a woman, has represented a ward once. Her husband has also represented the ward.
AAP district secretary Paramveer Singh said that volunteers working since the birth of party are becoming candidates and that has nothing to do with whether they are relatives or family members of local MLAs.
