Prayagraj: One of the important works being done under Maha Kumbh, the construction of a new flyover in Alopibagh, is now completed. Authorities will open traffic over this flyover from Wednesday late evening as a test, as the flyover will be formally inaugurated on Dec 13 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with several other flyovers and rail over bridges that have been constructed by the Rajya Setu Nigam (State Bridge Corporation).
Earlier, in the 2019 Kumbh, a flyover was constructed in the Alopibagh area of the city. This flyover connected Bairana crossing to Alopidevi Chungi at the span of 740 meters. An additional flyover from Sobatiyabagh was connected in middle of this flyover. However, because of extremely heavy traffic, the need for another flyover was felt to split the traffic both ways. Thus, to solve the problem of traffic jams from the Alopibagh area to the mela area, the two-lane flyover was converted into a four-lane one. The flyover was completed within nine months.
"We will be opening flyover for normal traffic from Wednesday evening. This is the first flyover in which a joint has been provided at a distance of 48 meters. Now the commuters will not get any kind of shock during the journey," said project manager Setu Nigam, Anirudh Yadav. Under the expansion plan, the construction work of the four-lane flyover started in April this year. The cost of construction of the 740-meter long flyover between Sardar Patel Institute and Bairhana crossing is Rs 54 crore.
"At the time of commencement of construction work, the deadline for its completion was Dec 31, but we completed the work of theme painting on the sound barrier and crash barrier on the flyover within a record time," said Yadav. The project manager also informed that the flyover at 40 Number Gumti at Phaphamau will also be open for traffic in December.
"On the day of the visit of the PM, we will be completing all the flyovers and ROBs, barring Subedarganj ROB, construction of which was taken up for Maha Kumbh," said the official.
