Patna/Begusarai: Two people, including a quack and his compounder, died under mysterious circumstances within the jurisdiction of Cheriya Bariyarpur police station area of Begusarai district on Wednesday.
The family members claimed that they died after consuming spurious liquor, while the police said one of them had a breathing problem and the other died due to cold stroke.
The deceased were identified as Chunchun Singh alias Chunnu Singh (63) and Hare Ram Tanti (50), both residents of Maida Shahpur village. While Chunchun ran a clinic at Cheriya Bariyarpur, Hare Ram worked as his assistant.According to their family members, both consumed alcohol on Sunday, after which their health deteriorated drastically by Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, both passed away.
According to a relative of Hare Ram, "Both Hare Ram and Chunchun consumed alcohol on Sunday at Cheriya Bariyarpur. Around 4 pm on Tuesday, Chunchun lost consciousness, while the health of Hare Ram also deteriorated and his vision started diminishing and his stomach ache continued. Subsequently, their family members admitted them to separate private hospitals. Hare Ram died around 6.30 am, while Chunchun remained unconscious after being admitted and passed away at 8.10 am."
When the police received information about the deaths, Town police rushed to the hospitals and sent the bodies for postmortem at the sadar hospital, said the family members.
However, police refuted the allegation of the family members that both died because of consuming liquor.
Begusarai SP, Maneesh, said: "The family members of Hare Ram said that he had difficulty in breathing. He was admitted to a private hospital, but he passed away during treatment. Meanwhile, an investigation into Chunchun's death revealed that his health deteriorated due to exposure to cold. He also died during treatment."
The SP said the exact cause of the deaths would be known only after the arrival of the postmortem report.
He said a police team led by Manjhaul SDPO are investigating all aspects of the deaths. "The police and the excise department team are jointly conducting raids in the surrounding areas," he added.
Civil Surgeon of Begusarai, Dr Pramod Kumar Singh, could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
