Kanpur: A businessman was arrested on Monday for brutally beating a 12-year-old boy whom he had bought online for Rs 30,000 as a labourer.
Govind Nagar station in-charge Pradeep Singh said that on Monday night, a man informed the police that in Govind Nagar B-block, furniture businessman Ankit Anand has kept a 12-year-old child captive and was forcing him to work.
On protesting, the trader used to beat him mercilessly.
On being rescued the child revealed that he was brought from Motihari, Bihar.
A few months ago, a person named Pappu Yadav brought him to Lucknow under the pretence of getting him a job.
After that, he was sent to businessman Ankit Anand's house in Kanpur.
The child said that he was made to clean toilets, sweep and mop, and take care of children. If he resisted, he was beaten brutally and not given proper food.
Upon receiving the complaint, the police rescued the child and arrested the accused trader.
The station in-charge said that a case was registered against the accused under charges including human trafficking, forced labour, and assault.
The police have handed over the child to his family, and preparations are underway to send the accused to jail.
