Chennai police arrested a 44-year-old man, Ganesan, 24 years after he robbed a fruit vendor of Rs 100. Ganesan, who was 20 at the time of the crime, was arrested initially but skipped bail and trial. DCP Sneha Priya ordered the execution of the pending warrant, leading to Ganesan's arrest near Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.
CHENNAI: Police arrested a man on Tuesday, 24 years after being arrested for threatening and robbing a street vendor of 100.
Now 44, Ganesan of Otteri was 20 when he threatened fruit vendor Kannan, 44, of Anna Nagar, at knifepoint and snatched 100 from him in Thirumangalam.
Based on Kannan's complaint, the Thirumangalam police registered a case and arrested Ganesan. After being remanded in judicial custody, Ganesan came out on bail but failed to attend trial.
As he was absent for hearings continuously, the court issued a non-bailable arrest. With the case pending for more than 24 years, Anna Nagar DCP Sneha Priya ordered its execution, along with other pending warrants.
A police team tracked Ganesan near Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital on Tuesday. He was later sent to jail.
