Chennai: Burglars cut open the iron shutters of a Tasmac shop in Gummidipoondi and stole liquor bottles worth 20,000 and 11,000 in cash on Monday night. A passerby, who noticed a hole drilled into the shutters of the outlet alerted police.
A police team, accompanied by sniffer dogs, arrived at the scene and discovered that several liquor bottles, including cartons, were missing. They also found the cash box broken open. Police said the burglars used a welding machine to cut a hole without making noise.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage and suspect that a gang may be involved in the crime. Police believe habitual offenders could be behind the burglary and launched a hunt to apprehend them.
