Michigan snowfall total predictions: Accumulation forecast for winter storms
Northern and western Michigan, including the Upper Peninsula, are about to get another winter storm that is expected to bring significant snowfall, according to the National Weather Service.
Winter storm warnings have been issued for those regions. It will be the third major snowstorm for those areas within about two weeks.
Northern Michigan, including Gaylord, Petoskey and Traverse City, is under a winter storm warning from 4 p.m. Wednesday until 7 p.m. Thursday. Of all areas under warnings, this region could see the most snowfall, according to the NWS forecast.
Heavy lake effect snow is expected and some snowbelt areas could receive 24 inches or more of snow.
Some areas in the Upper Peninsula could see more than a foot of snow, with Munising and Ironwood predicted to get the most accumulation.
Much of the Upper Peninsula is under a winter storm warning from 10 a.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday.
West Michigan along Lake Michigan is under a winter storm warning until 7 p.m. Thursday. High-end snowfall potential could hit 8-10 inches in some locations, including Muskegon.
Travel could be difficult in all the regions under winter storm warnings.
Southeast Michigan will also see snow Wednesday through 7 a.m. Friday, but accumulations are expected to be between 1-4 inches. Detroit is predicted to get 1 inch of snow.
