Ajeetesh Sandhu shot a five-under 67 in the second round to take the sole lead with an overall 8-under 136 in the Rs.2 crore Vishwa Samudra Open golf championship at the Delhi Golf Club on Wednesday.

“A bogey-free round at DGC is only possible when you hit a lot of fairways. I did that today. I was solid off the tee, and stuck good iron shots. I was in the rough only a couple of times and that too, just off the fairways. It was a solid day,” said Ajeetesh, an international champion.

Manish Thakran followed in the second spot, with a 2-under 70 for the day, that saw him accomplish a hole-in-one on the 12th. He was three shots behind Ajeetesh at 5-under 139.

It could have been a lot better for Manish, but for a double bogey on the 18th.

“I played aggressive, and capitalised on my putting strength. Even the double bogey on the last hole happened because of my natural tendency to attack the pins. It was a great feeling to make my first hold-in-one in a tournament”, said Manish.

Overnight leader Jamal Hossain of Bangladesh, dropped down to the third place as he went 1-over 73 for the day and an overall 4-under 140.

Among others, SSP Chawrasia rose from obscurity to joint 10th with a 4-under 68 for the day, the same as Om Prakash Chouhan. Both recovered from 3-over 75 on the opening day.

The cut was applied at five-over 149, and 51 professionals made it.

The scores:
1. Ajeetesh Sandhu (69, 67) 136; 2. Manish Thakran (69, 70) 139; 3. Jamal Hossain (67, 73) 140; 4T. M Charma (69, 72), Rashid Khan (70, 71), Sudhir Sharma (69, 72), Dhruv Shoran (72, 69) 141; 8T.
