Jaipur: Sanskar Saraswat grabbed twin titles in the Rajasthan Senior State Badminton Championship which concluded in Bikaner on Sunday. Eighteen-year-old Sanskar won both the men's singles and men's doubles titles to stamp his authority in style.
With Sunday's clean sweep, the Jodhpur teenager became the first player in the state to win both junior U-19 boys singles and senior titles in the same year.
Sanskar, who trains at the BAI National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati, defeated Manish Phogat 21-11, 21-17 in the men's singles final. The pair of Sanskar and Mohd Aman Khan (Tonk) halted the dream run of qualifiers Aryan Tyagi and Murli Sharma 21-16, 21-9 in the men's doubles summit clash.
In the women's singles final, Sneha Lamba prevailed over Suhasi Verma 21-13, 21-8. Second seed Somyaa Bhatnagar of Jaipur went down fighting against Sneha Lamba 11-21, 21-19, 12-21 in the women's singles semifinal. Teenager Somyaa trains at the Spofit Academy, Jaipur.
In the big upset on the sixth and final day of the competition, qualifiers Shairil Choudhary and Tanishka Yadav stunned top seeds Bhawna Sharma and Suman Sharma 21-16, 21-12 in the women's doubles final.
