America's newly elected President donald trump again made fun of Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau on tuesday (December 10, 2024). trump called the Canadian prime minister the governor of the Great State of Canada. Earlier, trump had suggested to Trudeau that if Trump's proposed 25 percent tariff destroys Canada's economy, then Canada should become the 51st state of the United States.

In fact, Trump said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social, "It was a great pleasure to have dinner the other night with Justin Trudeau, the governor of the great state of Canada. On sunday, trump suggested that if America is giving subsidies of $100 billion and $300 billion to its two neighbouring countries canada and Mexico, then these countries should consider becoming part of America.

In his first talk show appearance on sunday after winning the presidential election on november 5, trump said, "We are giving subsidies of more than $100 billion annually to Canada. We are giving subsidies of about $300 billion to Mexico. We should not give subsidies. Why are we giving subsidies to these countries? If we are going to give them subsidies, let them become a state (of America)."

What did Trudeau say on tariffs?

Meanwhile, the Canadian PM on Monday reacted strongly to Donald Trump's threat of imposing tariffs on Canada. Trudeau said that the tariff policy will not only harm the Canadian economy but will also make the lives of American citizens expensive and difficult. Trudeau said the US move to impose a 25% tariff on products coming from canada would be "devastating to the Canadian economy". It would impact several important industries, including energy, steel, aluminum and agriculture. Trudeau stressed that these tariff policies would ultimately bring hardship to American citizens.
