Chennai: A SpiceJet flight that left Chennai for Kochi on Monday made an emergency return to Chennai airport following a sudden mechanical failure.
All 90 people on board, including 84 passengers, were safely rescued.
The private passenger plane, carrying 84 people and 6 crew members, took off from Chennai at 6.30 am to Kochi. Withing a few minutes, it experienced a mechanical failure. The pilot immediately alerted the control room at Chennai airport, which instructed the plane to return and land safely. The plane landed at Chennai airport at 7.15 am. All passengers were safely disembarked and accommodated in the airport lounge.
The flight was eventually cancelled as the fault could not be fixed. A probe is on.
