Ludhiana: Following the state election commission’s announcement of Municipal Corporation (MC) election dates, the district administration has intensified its preparations. The administration has designated nomination filing venues, is finalising the second supplement of electoral rolls and conducting EVM verifications.
The nodal officer for elections confirmed that the process of filing nominations began on Monday, with the ROs (returning officers) accepting papers at venues announced on Sunday evening. While the final polling booth count awaits confirmation, around 1,232 booths are currently allocated for Ludhiana MC.

“The polling booths remain unchanged from Vidhan Sabha elections and are primarily situated in schools. Approximately 7,000 staff members, excluding security personnel, will be assigned for MC poll duty. Each booth will operate with five officials: A presiding officer, assistant presiding officer and three polling officers. Staff allocation will utilise random selection software,” explained a district administration official. Officials clarified that unlike the state assembly or Parliament elections, MC election vote counting occurs on the same day, eliminating the need for three-tier security in strong rooms. Standard protocol includes two-tier security with guards in polling booths and venue entrances.
The administration awaits the guidance of the State Election Commission regarding vote counting procedures - particularly on whether to count booth-wise or consolidate multiple wards under one returning officer. They confirmed that wheelchair provisions would be made for elderly and physically challenged voters.
Sources indicate plans for videography during the count. Election officials are likely to release the second supplement of voting data by Monday evening or Tuesday morning. As per election authorities no candidate filed nomination on Monday.
An AAP leader said that the candidate list of the party was expected to be announced around Tuesday afternoon.
