New Delhi: A 37-year-old labourer lost his life in a wall collapse at a construction site in Bawana on Monday. Local people realised about the accident when a phone started ringing at the site, prompting them to investigate.
To their horror, they found a lifeless body buried under the debris of the collapsed wall. The deceased was identified as Santosh Mahto, a carpenter.
Police was alerted through a PCR call on Monday night and rushed to the spot. They moved the body to MV Hospital, where Mahto was declared brought dead.
"Residents in the area got to know of the incident at the construction site where other material was kept and thought nothing was strange, but when they heard a phone ringing continuously and inspected, they found the body," a senior police officer said.
It is unclear when the wall collapsed, police said. The deceased was a resident of Muzaffarpur, Bihar. The body has been sent for a post-mortem. A case under Section 106 (death due to negligence) of Bhartiya Naya Sanhita was registered.
Police officers are questioning other workers at the site to gather more information about the circumstances leading to the collapse.
The site supervisor and contractor are being questioned about the implementation of safety protocol, cops said.
