SLUG: VIGILANCE PROBE SOUGHT
Ahmedabad: Corporators Iqbal Sheikh and Zulfikhan Pathan of the Gomtipur ward alleged malpractices within the Prime Minister's Housing Scheme at the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC's) housing cell. They wrote a letter to the municipal commissioner M Thennarasan on Tuesday, demanding a vigilance enquiry.
The corporators alleged that staff of the AMC housing cell were pressuring beneficiaries on the waiting list to submit written declarations declining participation in the scheme. The letter further alleged that following these declarations, the AMC staff added names of ineligible candidates to the list.
The corporators suggested that a thorough vigilance investigation would expose the malpractice. Furthermore, they cited a specific case where a woman from Gomtipur, who paid Rs 7,500 as a deposit for the scheme, was not allotted a house through the lottery system. When she applied for a refund, her deposit amount was erroneously transferred to someone else's account. She continues to face difficulties in recovering her money, prompting the corporators to seek immediate action for the reimbursement of her deposit.
