Aizawl: A promotional campaign by a Meghalaya-based cement company has caused confusion among Aizawl's population and faced criticism, including stern action from the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC).
Unusual advertising materials displaying the Hindi text "tumhara naam kya hai?" appeared throughout the city, causing bewilderment among locals. The AMC responded by sending an official notice to the company's local office on Monday, demanding removal of these unauthorised advertisements by 1:00 PM that day.
The notice sent to thre company's Aizawl office highlighted that their campaign contravened the AMC Display of Advertisement and Hoarding Regulations, 2013.
The municipal body's intervention came after residents expressed confusion about these mysterious advertisements, which were placed on electrical poles and non-designated locations. An AMC representative noted that while people were intrigued about the meaning behind these posters, the advertisements were positioned in non-permitted areas.
Reports indicate that identical promotional materials have appeared in other northeastern capital cities, including Shillong and Agartala.
