Prayagraj: A joint team of police, PWD and district administration on Tuesday demolished an encroached part of a decades-old Noori mosque of Fatehpur district amid tight security arrangements.
Additional SP (Fatehpur) VS Mishra told reporters that PWD officials had issued a notice to the mosque authorities in Sep and on Tuesday the encroached portion was demolished in view of widening of the road.
A large police posse, including five circle officers, 10 station house officers, 200 constables, along with one company of PAC and one platoon of RAF, was deployed to maintain law and order.
The ASP made it clear that police did not force any shopkeeper to put down the shutters but diverted the traffic in view of the deployment of JCB machines for demolition.
