Dibrugarh: Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) on Tuesday conducted a major eviction drive at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) campus, removing unauthorised food kiosks.
The proliferation of these food stalls had become a significant issue, with vendors occupying various spaces across the campus, including crucial access roads and pathways.
Led by DMC executive officer Navas Das and supported by local law enforcement, the drive focused on removing unauthorised vendors, who had set up operations outside various departments of AMCH, including the super speciality units, blood bank and medical college hostels. The widespread presence of these unregulated food stalls had raised significant health and safety concerns.
"The hygiene at these unauthorised kiosks were far below acceptable standards. It was particularly concerning that patients and their attendants were consuming food from these stalls despite obvious health risks," Das said.
Dibrugarh mayor Saikat Patra stressed on the importance of maintaining cleanliness and hygiene within AMCH campus. "The eviction drive against unauthorised food stalls will continue across Dibrugarh. We urge the vendors to legitimise their businesses by obtaining proper permits and operating from designated vendor zones established by the DMC," Patra said.
