Ghaziabad: A six-month-old foetus was recovered from a clogged toilet pipe at a building in the Prahaladgarhi area.
Police suspect one of the nine families living in the building had flushed the foetus from the toilet and are planning to conduct DNA tests to identify the biological parents. Most of the tenants in the building are labourers, police said.
ACP Indirapuram Swatantra Singh said on Sunday the building's owner, Devendra alias Deva, alerted the local cops that a foetus was found in one of the toilet pipes of the building.
"The owner told police that there were issues with the backflow of the water in the building on Sunday and a plumber had to be called in. While fixing the blockage, the plumber found the foetus," the officer said. The foetus has been sent for tests. It was not immediately clear whether it was a male or a female foetus.
Police said they questioned all the residents, but nobody came forward. A senior police officer said it was possible a female tenant disposed of the foetus out of fear of social stigma. "If the tenants do not provide any information, DNA samples of all residents will be sent for testing and matched with the foetus," the officer said.
