Shivamogga: During the council session on Monday, MLC DS Arun expressed concerns regarding the delay in completing the ayurvedic university in Shivamogga.
The proposed project has not materialised, and the existing ayurvedic college is facing a shortage of the teaching staff. He pointed out that the land allocated for the university has diminished from 100 acres in 2011, to just 8 acres due to departmental redistributions, and emphasised that the university requires at least 50 acres of land.
Health and family welfare minister Dinesh Gundu Rao assured to tackle the issue after the session concludes. He mentioned that in 2021, the govt had approved Rs 20 crore for construction of the administrative block at the college.
Arun requested the govt to show commitment towards the university project, and recommended acquiring additional land from the housing department, to supplement the current 8 acres. The minister agreed to hold detailed discussions post the session.
Speaking to TOI, Arun said, "Ayurveda university in Shivamogga was a dream of my father and veteran BJP leader DH Shankaramurthy, and former CM BS Yediyurappa had allotted the land for the project."
