Chandigarh: Ahead of the elections for five municipal corporations, 44 municipal councils, and various nagar panchayats on Dec 21, chief minister Bhagwant Mann will hold a meeting on Tuesday to outline the poll strategy of the ruling party.
Party sources said AAP national secretary Sandeep Pathak and Punjab unit president Aman Arora will also be present at the meeting, which will be attended by members of the district-level screening committees. “The election strategy of the party will be given final shape. The focus will be on highlighting the developmental works and welfare initiatives launched by the AAP govt over the 2.5 years of its tenure.
The party MLAs are already working on the ground to mobilise support for the party and ensure that AAP wins a majority in every civic body House going to the polls,” said a party leader.
Elections for five municipal corporations in the state - Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, and Phagwara, besides byelections for certain wards in four others, will be held by the end of December, as per a notification issued by the Punjab department of local govt on Nov 22.
AAP has already appointed four cabinet ministers and its Hoshiarpur MP Raj Kumar Chabbewal as observers for the five municipal corporations to finalise the selection of candidates in the five corporations.
The state election commissioner said electronic voting machines (EVMs) would be used for the voting. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on Dec 13, and the last date for the withdrawal of nominations is Dec 14.
