Kanpur: A man sustained severe burns after immolating himself following a domestic dispute in Unnao's Sukhlal Kheda village under Gangaghat Kotwali on Monday night.
After dousing himself with a flammable liquid, he rushed outside while ablaze. Local residents managed to douse the flames, but he had already suffered serious burns.
He was initially taken to a local medical hospital before being transferred to the district hospital due to his critical state.
Raju (42), a resident of Sukhlal Kheda village, who had quarrelled with his wife over household matters on Monday night, poured a flammable substance on himself and ignited it. While engulfed in flames, he ran outdoors seeking assistance. Locals successfully doused the flames by wrapping him in a blanket.
He received initial treatment at a nearby primary health centre before being shifted to the district hospital.
Police visited Raju's house on Tuesday morning for investigation after receiving information from the villagers.
Police outpost in-charge Rahul Singh said that the self-immolation was the result of a domestic dispute. The severely burnt man is currently receiving treatment at the district hospital. No formal complaint has been registered yet, the police await potential action from the family.
