Shivamogga: The three-day cultural extravaganza, Sahyadri Utsav, commenced at Kuvempu University with a spectacular procession organised by the extra-curricular activities department.
The event witnessed participation from over 2,000 students representing various affiliated colleges, who were dressed in regional attire including Yakshagana, Bayalata, and traditional Malnad costumes.
The procession featured students performing an array of cultural art forms native to the region, including Puja Kunitha, Somana Kunitha, Dollu Kunitha, Nandikolu, Veeragase, Kamsale, and Veeranariya. Additionally, students enacted roles of mythological deities and characters, adding to the cultural richness of the parade.
Vice-chancellor Sharat Ananthamurthy inaugurated the festival by offering floral tributes to the Kuvempu statue. The opening ceremony was attended by registrar AL Manjunath, and programme convenors SM Gopinath and Nellikatte Siddesh.
