Vadodara: A tour of temples in Kheda and hours of waiting landed a convict in the hands of the detection of crime branch (DCB) sleuths on Sunday. Police nabbed Jaswant Parmar, who had escaped from the Vadodara central jail on Saturday.
He was handed over to the jail authorities.
Police said that 40-year-old Parmar, who was given a life sentence by the court in a kidnapping and rape case, was lodged at the central jail. On Saturday, he was taken out of the jail for some wiring work. He managed to escape from the jail by deceiving the guards, following which an offence was registered against him at Raopura police station.
The crime branch sleuths said they received information that Parmar was planning to visit the temples in Dakor, Meenawada, and Fagvel in Kheda district. The team then kept a close watch at the temple in Dakor and then at Meenawada, but Parmar didn't turn up. Police said Parmar finally arrived at a temple in Fagvel, and they nabbed him there.
He had been arrested for kidnapping and raping a minor girl in Godhra in 2017. Later, he was convicted in the case.
