Krishnagiri: Residents of Kaveripattinam town panchayat in Krishnagiri district have raised concerns over a newly laid tar road which connects Kaveripattinam bus stand to Kosamedu. The road was designed in such a way to accommodate a tamarind tree located right in the middle of the road. Locals have expressed concerns that the tree could lead to accidents and submitted a petition on the same to the authorities.
K Matheswaran, a local villager, told TOI that the town panchayat had recently laid the road under the Kalaignar urban development scheme at a cost of 57 lakh. "Several tamarind trees line the roadside, and officials chose not to remove them, including the one in the middle of the road."
Urging that the tree be removed at the earliest, J Stephan Jesupatham, another local from Kosamedu said, "There is a high chance of people driving at night colliding with the tree."
Town panchayat officials have promised to remove the tree once they receive the necessary approval.
