Kanpur: A 28-year-old businessman from Kaushalpuri, Nazirabad, ended his life by hanging while he was on a video call with his girlfriend on Sunday night.
The tragic incident occurred at 1:30am after his girlfriend allegedly ended their relationship.
Arpit Sarraf managed a jewellery business in Gumti Bazaar four years ago but later started a matrimonial website with his mother, Neelam Sarraf.
The enterprise generated a monthly revenue of around Rs 25 to 30 lakh.
Sources said that Arpit was in a relationship and frequently spent time with his girlfriend. He used to maintain a regular exercise routine but on Monday morning he did not come out of his room.
His mother grew concerned. After getting no response to her calls she entered the room and found Arpit's body hanging from the ceiling.
She immediately alerted the neighbours, who informed the police.
Nazirabad station officer Aman Singh and his team found that the last WhatsApp call made from his mobile was to his girlfriend at 1am. Investigations further revealed that she ended her relationship with Arpit as she had developed feelings for someone else.
The SO said that an investigation would be started upon receiving a formal complaint from the family.
