Kanpur: An artisan fled with gold belonging to two jewellery merchants. The cost of the gold is Rs 1.5 crore.
Sheikh Sarfraz Ali, who resides in Friends Colony in Civil Lines, operates a jewellery shop on Birhana Road. An artisan named Manas has been crafting ornaments at his shop for the last four years, and was residing in Pheelkhana. The merchant said that he had given Manas 891 grams of gold, valued at Rs 70.17 lakh for jewellery fabrication. When attempts were made to contact him on December 6, his mobile phone was unreachable. Upon visiting his residence, they discovered that he was missing.
During their search, they learnt that another jeweller, Gaurav Pal, had also lost 955 grams of gold worth around Rs 79 lakh to the same person. Subsequently, both jewellery merchants lodged an FIR at the Pheelkhana police station. Inspector Ravindra Pratap Singh said that FIRs for both the incidents were registered. "We are currently reviewing nearby CCTV footage to locate Manas," he said. tnn
