Bengaluru: A City Armed Reserve (CAR) staffer and a recently retired colleague of his have come under police radar for alleged cheating and misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 59 lakh.
According to a complaint filed by D Rajalakshmi, assistant administrative officer, second division assistant DS Prashant and retired staffer Saroja B Bijapura are accused of misappropriating funds between 2019 and 2024. Prashant was transferred out recently, while Saroja retired in May as an assistant administrative officer. "During an internal audit in Jan this year, a shortage of Rs 59 lakh was found. Further investigation revealed that the suspects worked in the section that handled financial aspects of CAR, like water bill expenses and salary recovery. The two caused a financial loss of Rs 59 lakh by not depositing the money into relevant bank accounts and instead, remitted the money into some private account," the complaint stated.
"Saroja was in service when Prashant got transferred to another department earlier. He didn't hand over the related files and account details to Saroja before his transfer. Saroja too kept silent on the issue and never asked him to hand over the files," it further read.
