Rajkot: A 33-year-old man was arrested and booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder in connection with the suicide of a married woman with whom he was involved in a romantic relationship in Junagadh.
On Dec 6, the woman, Nisha Pancholi (33), allegedly ended her life by consuming poison in a hotel where she went with her paramour, Ramji alias Ramesh Chauhan. In the complaint lodged at Junagadh City B Division police station, the deceased's husband, Ashwin, alleged that Chauhan locked the room and left rather than seeking medical help or alerting the hotel staff when he found Nisha dead.
Pancholi, a private sector employee, previously discovered his wife's relationship with Ramji through phone conversations. Despite Ashwin's intervention, which led to a temporary cessation of their relationship for two years, Nisha resumed contact with Ramesh in April last year. Ashwin again cautioned Chauhan, but the relationship persisted secretly.
On the day of the incident, Ashwin left for work at 1:30 pm. Suspicious of her activities, he returned home to find her absent. When contacted, Nisha claimed she was attending personal tuition.
After a while, a man called him from Nisha's phone and informed him about her suicide in the hotel room.
Hotel records confirmed Nisha's presence with Chauhan. The staff accessed the locked room to discover Nisha unconscious near the bathroom, showing signs of poisoning. She was pronounced dead at the civil hospital after being transported by the 108 emergency services.
Investigation officer Parbat Gorafad confirmed Chauhan's arrest and said that he confessed to his relationship with Nisha. He claimed to have fled the hotel in panic after she consumed poison.
Gorafad said they are questioning him for the reason for locking the room before fleeing.
