Dibrugarh: Warriors, a non-profit organisation, organised a winter clothing distribution drive for underprivileged residents along the Brahmaputra River bank at Chandmari Ghat in Dibrugarh on Monday.
The initiative, aptly named ‘Oom' (meaning warmth in Assamese), saw a significant turnout of beneficiaries from the local community.
The distribution programme focused on providing essential winter wear to families living near the riverside, who are often most vulnerable to the severe winter conditions. Men, women and children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds received warm clothing to help them brave the harsh winter months ahead.
"Our primary goal is to ensure that no one suffers during the winter season due to lack of proper clothing. We have observed that riverside communities are particularly susceptible to extreme cold conditions. The proximity to water makes the temperature feel even colder for these residents. The name ‘Oom' represents physical warmth and the warmth of human connection and community support. The initiative has received a positive response from the local community," a Warriors volunteer said.
He mentioned that the organisation has been actively working across various districts of Assam, identifying areas where winter assistance is most needed. Warriors have announced plans to continue similar drives throughout the winter season across different parts of the state, focusing on reaching out to more underprivileged communities.
