Bengaluru: A 15-year-old boy, caught by Shivajinagar traffic police on Dec 7 while performing wheeling stunts on a scooter, was found to be under the influence of drugs. Cops subjected the teenager — said to be a school dropout — to a medical test and he tested positive for consumption of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in the form of a capsule.
A case was registered against the boy and his father, who gave him the scooter. Following the test result, Commercial Street police registered another case against them under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The boy, along with another minor friend on the scooter, was spotted on Queens Road by deputy commissioner of police (east-traffic) Kuldeep Kumar Jain. He recorded a video of the duo performing stunts and alerted his subordinates. A head constable from Shivajinagar traffic police station spotted the boys around 5pm on Venkataswamy Naidu Road near Shivaji Circle. He caught them near Nala Road.
During investigation, cops found the boy's scooter registered in the name of his father, who works as a mechanic and driver. A case was registered under Indian Motor Vehicles Act and sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The teenager was behaving abnormally, prompting police to suspect that he was under the influence of drugs.
When he tested positive for THC, the teenager said he'd purchased the capsule in a medical store and consumed it before he performing stunts on the scooter.
