New Delhi: A man died after being hit by a train near Meet Nagar gate in northeast Delhi's Jyoti Nagar on Friday afternoon, while his brother was seriously injured. The incident occurred when they were drinking alcohol on the railway track.
The deceased was identified as Sonu (36). Police said that around 4.15 pm on Friday, they received information about two young men being injured after being hit by a train near Saboli Halt railway station. Upon reaching the spot, police found the two brothers, Sonu (36) and Monu (34), injured.
PCR personnel took them to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where doctors declared Sonu dead on arrival. His younger brother, Monu, is in critical condition and on a ventilator, unable to give a statement, police said.
The investigation revealed that both brothers lived with their family in Ashok Nagar. Inquiry revealed that they were sitting near the railway track and drinking alcohol at the time of the incident, when the speeding train approached. "Due to excessive drinking, they could not move from their position and came under the train," police said.
Police have initiated proceedings under Section 194 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), according to which police enquire and report on suicide.
Cops are also scanning CCTV footage near Meet Nagar flyover and Saboli Haat railway station. So far, cops have found no foul play in the incident.
