Chennai: The seven member inter-ministerial central team (IMCT) visited places affected by cyclone Fengal in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Sunday to assess the damages.
The team led by Rajesh Gupta, joint director, ministry of home affairs, started their inspection from Pahandai village in Cuddalore and then proceeded to Melpattampakkam near Nellikuppam, where roads and bridges were damaged due to Cyclone Fengal.
Then they visited Alagiyanatham and interacted with the residents of the village where paddy raised in several acres was submerged.
Accompanied by TN govt officials, the team visited Gundu Uppalavadi village where houses were damaged. The team also inspected the bridge across river South Pennar in Nanamdedu village that was damaged due to heavy floods. The team obtained details of the bridge from the officials.
When the team visited Thimmanayakanpalayam in the union territory, angry residents surrounded them and demanded immediate compensation.
Alleging their village was neglected, they accused the officials of not visiting their area despite heavy damage due to cyclone. Meanwhile, Puducherry DMK led by leader of opposition R Siva met the central team and submitted a memorandum demanding 600crore compensation from Union govt.
In a related development, VCK president Thol Thirumvalavan announced VCK will donate 10lakh towards Cyclone Fengal relief work.
