Rohtak: In a shocking incident, a private financier was allegedly shot dead by some armed assailants here Friday night, triggering outrage among the residents of his native Dighal village in Jhajjar district.
On Saturday, Dighal residents staged a protest on the Jhajjar-Rohtak road near Dighal toll plaza, demanding justice for the bereaved family. They said the police should eliminate the culprits in an encounter.
Top police and administrative officials rushed to the scene to pacify the agitated villagers and persuaded them to lift the blockade. As per reports, the victim, Manjeet, was in Rohtak’s Kiloi village on Friday to attend a wedding in his cousin’s family.
While he was returning home, some armed assailants in an SUV opened indiscriminate fire on his car, killing him on the spot. The preliminary investigations have linked the incident to gangster Himanshu alias Bhau.
Manjeet, who previously served in the Delhi Police, was currently working as a financier in Delhi.
