Hyderabad: The Centre on Friday approved seven Navodaya Schools (NVs) in Telangana.
These schools will be set up in Jagtial, Nizamabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Medchal Malkajgiri, Mahabubnagar, Sangareddy and Suryapet.
In all, the Centre has sanctioned 28 NVs in the country to be set up at a cost of Rs 2,359.82 crore.
"While the sanctioning of seven Navodaya Vidyalayas is a positive step, the central govt should have considered setting up a few Kendriya Vidyalayas as well, given their reputation for excellence and widespread preference among parents. The Union govt's consistent neglect of the state's educational needs has led to private institutions capitalising on this gap in the sector," said Venkat Sainath, general secretary of the Hyderabad School Parents Association (HSPA).
