Brazilian forward Rodrygo will miss Real Madrid’s La Liga clash against Girona at the Montivili later in the day, the club announced on Saturday.

Spanish youngsters Gonzalo Garcia and Chema Andres were also amongst “last-minute absences” to miss out on the travelling squad. U-19 player Daniel Yanez has been named in the squad.

Rodrygo featured in Madrid’s 1-2 loss against Athletic Club in the league and played 88 minutes before being subbed off. The reason for the 23-year-old’s absence from the squad is unknown.

If the fleet-footed winger has caught a niggle then it would add to Carlo Ancelotti’s injury woes. Rodrygo’s compatriot Vinicius Jr. has been sidelined since picking up a hamstring injury in November. However, he is expected to return for the side’s clash against Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League.

David Alaba has also been an absentee from Madrid’s set-up and is expected to return in January after re-joining training to regain fitness and recover from a long-term knee injury.
