Patna: An 18-year-old boy was allegedly kidnapped and forcefully married to a girl in Patna district, police said on Saturday. According to the victim's family, the incident occurred on December 5 when the youth went to attend a wedding ceremony at Bakhtiyarpur's Champanagar village.
The victim's brother-in-law, Prem Kumar, lodged an FIR at Gaurichak police station on Friday, alleging that Shubham Kumar, a resident of Mahddipur village, was kidnapped for marriage on Thursday evening while he was attending his cousin's wedding procession in Bakhtiyarpur. The family alleged that a resident of Saphua forcibly married Shubham to his daughter.
Shubham's mother, Hemanti Devi, told the police that after searching, they found her son locked in a room at the village, but were not allowed to meet him.
Vivek Kumar, SHO of Gaurichak police station, said the police were conducting raids to rescue the youth. "A team was sent to Bakhtiyarpur to investigate the allegations made by Shubham's family. The police are investigating the case and he will be rescued soon," he said.
The investigating officer, Dharmendra Kumar Giri, said, according to the complainant, the youth was abducted on Thursday and forcefully married. "After the marriage, the girl was sent alone to Shubham's house in Gaurichak. His family, who is against the marriage, sent the girl back to her home. However, there is no trace of the youth," Giri said.
"The police are questioning the girl's family, who confirmed that the marriage ceremony took place on Thursday, but they denied the allegation of a forced marriage. They claimed the youth consented to the marriage. However, they had no information on where Shubham went after the marriage," Giri said.
