Bengaluru: Nelamangala Rural police detained a man following an assault on Mohan Kumar S, panchayat development officer of Kuluvanahalli, Friday evening.
Four persons, including two women, barged into the panchayat office and assaulted Kumar. The detained person is Yuvaraj, 37, younger brother of Mahalakshmi, a suspended data operator at the panchayat office. The other accused include Mahalakshmi, her mother Mahimakka, and her uncle Thimmaiah, all residents of Jakkasandra village.
Mahalakshmi was suspended in Dec 2023 on charges of dereliction of duty, a decision she attributed to Kumar, alleging he was behind her suspension. A departmental inquiry was ordered against her, which she reportedly skipped.
On Friday, Mahalakshmi and her family confronted Kumar at the office. An argument broke out after Mahalakshmi insisted Kumar accept her petition instead of submitting it through the designated section. The accused verbally abused Kumar and tried to strangle him. Colleagues intervened and rushed him to Nelamangala Government Hospital, where he was treated for injuries on his abdomen, chest, and neck.
