Amritsar: Expressing concern over the incidents leading to the attack on SAD leader Sukhbir Singh Badal, SAD Delhi chief Paramjit Singh Sarna, in a release issued here on Friday, alleged, “It might be linked to the language and statements made over the past six months by Giani Harpreet Singh.” The former acting Akal Takht Jathedar and Takht Damdama Sahib Jathedar had criticised certain Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders, prominent among them was Virsa Singh Valtoha.
When asked to explain how the statements of Giani Harpreet Singh could lead to all these incidents, Sarna said “Whatever I had to say, I have written in my note.”
At the same time, he also pointed out that reducing the security detail for Sukhbir during “sewa” may have contributed to creating a conducive environment for an armed attack on him. Sarna said he has urged the Sikh high priests to recognise the responsibility they hold during these challenging times. He also called on Sikh leaders and the community to examine the causes and circumstances that led to the attack so that such incidents could be prevented in the future. Sources said that a clandestine move has begun by “some persons to gather information, including financial details, scrutinizing property acquisitions both in India and abroad, the persons they were associated with, and their assets, about some religious leaders. In the recent past, there had been a ‘war of words’ between Giani Harpreet Singh and Valtoha. Yudhvir Rana
