Ranchi: Director general of police (DGP) Anurag Gupta has issued new directives to senior officers asking them to investigate cases related to left-wing extremist (LWE) violence.
During Friday's video conference with state police officers, the DGP mandated that police stations in-charge, rather than junior officers, must investigate such cases. He also emphasised mandatory FIR registration for threat complaints.
Recent incidents of violence and arson in Ranchi, Latehar, Hazaribag, Khunti, and Chatra districts prompted the review of anti-extremism measures and court security protocols.
The DGP demanded reports from SSPs and SPs identifying officers who failed to register FIRs related to criminal threats and extortion. He specified that all LWE-related violence cases must be investigated by stations in-charge or inspector-rank officers, warning of consequences for non-compliance.
The directives included effective property confiscation of absconding accused, documentation of illegal properties, reporting officers who delay action against criminals, creating detailed profiles of LWE members and criminal gangs and enhanced security measures for courts and judges' residences.
The DGP instructed IGs and DIGs to personally inspect court and judicial residential premises to ensure adequate security arrangements.
Non-compliance with these orders will result in action against stations in-charge, with accountability extending to SSPs and SPs. These measures aim to strengthen the response to extremist activities and enhance judicial security across the state.
