Chennai: Madras high court on Friday wondered how the court could restrain phone calls to a student whose personal mobile phone number is shown as that of actor Sai Pallavi in Tamil movie ‘Amaran'.
Justice S Soundar made the observation while hearing a plea moved by V V Vaageesan, a student from Porur, seeking 1.1 crore compensation from the movie's makers for the agony he suffered.
When senior advocate P H Arvindh Pandian, representing the producer, submitted that the portion revealing the mobile number of the petitioner had been removed from the film, counsel for the petitioner, Munusamy, submitted that despite this, the petitioner was still receiving calls. Recording the submissions, the court observed that it cannot restrain phone calls but can direct the service provider to block all calls to the number if the petitioner wishes.
The court then directed the makers and service provider Bharti Airtel to file their counter affidavits and adjourned the hearing to Dec 20.
According to the petitioner, his mobile number is shown in the film as the number of actor Sai Pallavi, the female lead. Saying that he began receiving calls from all over India and even from other countries round the clock, affecting his sleep and causing him trauma, he wanted the court to direct CBFC to cancel the censor certificate issued to the movie for violation of provisions of the Cinematograph Act.
