Boland to Pant, angled away and beats the defensive block. Four!! That is an undescribable shot. Short of a length outside off, he reverse pulls (yes, pulls!) it over the slip cordon for a boundary. 

Starc to Pant, full outside off, punched to cover for a single. Four!! Edged and flies past Smith’s grasp and through the cordon for a boundary. Gill punches to deep square tp collect a couple. A punch through cover and Gill completes another double. 

Boland back. Kohli punches a full one straight down the ground but doesn’t have the legs to go to the boundary. Three runs. Gill punches one more to cover for a single. WICKET!! Full outside off, Kohli looks to lean forward and defend, ball catches the edge and Carey completes the catch.

Starc into the attack, back of a length on off, punched to cover for a single. Length on the pads to Kohli, clipped fine for a couple. A single to round the over, a direct hit at the stumps but Gill is safely in. 

Boland to Gill, pushed to cover for a single. Kohli happy to let the balls outside off alone. Boland manages to find the inside edge, bounces off the leg and falls safely. 

Cummins to Gill, back of a length outside off, left alone. Gill punches a length ball to mid off and scampers across for a single. 

Boland to Gill, raps him on the pads. Appeals from all around but the umpire says no. Gill dabs the next one to point for a single. Boland draws Kohli onto the front foot and beats his forward defensive block. 

Cummins for his fifth over. Gill gets a single through mid on. A single for Kohli through backward point. FOUR! A glorious cover drive from Gill. He pulls the next through mid wicket for two runs. The over ends with a single to fine leg.

Scott Boland replaces Mitchell Starc. OUT! Jaiswal is caught behind. He is spot on in the fourth-stump line, Jaiswal cannot resist pushing at it and gets an edge.

A bit of a yes-no between Gill and Jaiswal as the former clips Cummins through square leg. They complete the single in the end. FOUR! Jaiswal tries to ramp it over slip, gets an under edge and bounces right in front of Steve Smith and second slip before running to the boundary. Another single for Jaiswal through the on side.

Jaiswal facing Starc. Four byes! This one just flies off from back-of-a-length and sails over the keeper’s head. FOUR! A gentle full-bladed poke through mid off from Jaiswal.

Cummins again. WICKET! Rahul is gone! Cummins angles into the body, Rahul tries to pull and gets glove on it. Not the start India would have wanted.

Pat Cummins to Rahul, a quick single to mid on to get off the mark. Five dots balls for Jaiswal.

Starc to Jaiswal, the first delivery goes down leg as the bowler searches for another delivery that swing late from the leg stump line. FOUR! Overpitched and Jaiswal opens his bat face to parry this past gully.

Pacy yorker on middle stump and cleans Head up! What an innings from the southpaw. His contribution of 140 runs has put Australia in control.

AUS vs IND, 2nd Test: Travis Head scores hundred in Adelaide pink-ball Test

Australia middle-order batter Travis Head registered his eighth Test century during Day 2 of the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test between Australia and India at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday.

Siraj replaces Harshit. Three runs from the over. Australia now leads by 93 runs and the game is slipping away from India’s hands.

Ashwin continues. An inside edge for Head but its hits the backfoot and steers wide of the stumps, just that kind of a day for Head where nothing can go wrong. Three singles in the over.

Harshit to continue. FOUR! Head chips this delivery over mid on! FOUR! Hits this hard over covers, again width on offer from Harshit to the left hander. Third FOUR! It’s a slower ball from Harshit but Head again gets enough on it to get it over the fielders.

Ashwin again. HUNDRED FOR TRAVIS HEAD! He embraces the applause by the Adelaide audience. A soft tap through mid wicket to complete a quick single.

Harshit to Head, FOUR! Slashes it on the up through covers. FOUR more! This is cut through backward point. He moves to 97 with that. A single through covers for Head on the fifth delivery.

Harshit Rana back into the attack. Carey punches the first delivery to deep covers for a single. Edge and FOUR! Head slashes outside off and the edge flies past Pant. FOUR more! This one is angling on the pads and Head tucks it on its way to fine leg.

Ashwin to Head, SIX! Steps out and launches it down the ground. Put down! Head goes for another slog but gets a leading edge. Siraj has to track back for this from mid wicket, gets a hand to it but cannot keep it. 10 runs from the over.

Bumrah starts his over with a no ball. FOUR! Head pulls this hard length ball and beats the fielder in the deep. A single next to deep backward point.

WICKET! Ashwin gets Marsh caught behind. He floats it outside off and the ball goes on straight. The replays show there’s gap between bat and ball, the bat was hitting the pad but Marsh started walking off and the umpire raised his finger.

Bumrah to continue. FOUR! A soft push from Marsh takes the ball through the gap at backward point. A no ball in the over too makes it five runs.

Ashwin to Head. He cuts to deep covers off the second delivery, one run. Marsh pushes to long on for a single. Head slogs the final delivery over long on, two runs as Siraj cuts it before it hits the ropes.

Bumrah to Marsh, a single through covers off the first delivery. FOUR! A touch of width outside off and Head cuts it through backward point. A single with a soft push through covers on the next delivery.

Ashwin to Marsh, a single to fine leg. That’s the only run from the over.

Australia leading by 11 runs and will look to add at least another 100 in the second session. India on the other hand would want to finish off the Australian innings as soon as possible.

Siraj to Marsh, single to deep square. Four!! Head punches through the covers and beats the fielder in the deep. Fifty up for the southpaw! Short ball outside off, Head looks to ramp it over the cordon, doesn’t make contact. That will be lunch on Day 2.

Ashwin to Marsh, full outside off, defended right back to the bowler. Appeals for lbw, not given onfield and India opts to review. Looked like it was pad first but the third umpire rules otherwise. Single off the last ball of the over. 

Siraj replaces Nitish. Four!! Full on the stumps, slipped through wide mid on for a boundary and with that Australia takes the first innings lead. A couple to the legside sweeper to end the over. 

Ashwin to Head, down legside, flicked fine for two. Full outside off, punched to long off. Head scampers back for two. Six!! Full on the stumps, swept hard over square leg and clears the fence. 

WICKET!! Nitish Reddy to Labuschagne, slightly wide, tried to guide it through gully and Jaiswal holds on to the catch.

Four!! Head cuts Harshit’s first ball through point for a boundary. Pushes one to the legside for a single. Four!! Back of a length outside off, guided through gully for four more by Labuschagne. Four!! Wider line, guided to the left of gully this time, same result. Four!! Short on the body, pulled through square leg for the fourth boundary of the over. 

Ashwin to Head, cut to backward point. Head punches off the backfoot through cover for a single. Just a single off. 

Harshit to continue. Two singles to start the over. Labuschagne inching towards his half-century. Full on the channel outside off, beats the outside edge of Labuchagne’s bat. Full outside off, punched through the covers and that brings up his fifty!

Ashwin into the attack. Six!! Full outside off, Head launches one down the ground and it clears the fence. Appeals for lbw from Ashwin, not given on field. Going down leg. 

Rana to Head, full and angling in, defended to the legside. On the pads again, clipped through midwicket for a couple. Another double, squarer on the legside this time. Full and wide, beats Head’s attempted slash outside off. 

Siraj for his seventh over today. Head punches to deep covers again to pocket a single. FOUR! Full and driven past mid off from Marnus. 

Harshit to Head, bowls a bouncer which Head, for a second, thinks of ramping but opts against it. A single on the third delivery to fine leg. A triple for Marnus as he leans in for a drive and gets it past covers. A single on the final delivery for Head, again to deep covers.

Siraj to Head, punches to deep covers for a single. Beaten! Another peach from Siraj outside off stump to Marnus. Just a single from the over.

Harshit into the attack now. Marnus on strike. FOUR! Slightly fuller and Marnus flicks it through mid wicket. FOUR more! On the pads and Marnus packs it through square leg.

Siraj to Head, beaten! On the off stump line, Head expects it to angle in but it straightens. Had it been slightly fuller it would have taken the top of off. Head slashes wide but misses. A maiden over from Siraj.

SMITH IS STRANGLED DOWN LEG! Bumrah has his third wicket. He looks to flick this delivery on the middle-stump line, ends up nicking it to the keeper.

Travis Head is the new batter. Bumrah comes around the wicket for him. Beaten! Outside the off stump and leaves the left hander. FOUR! Too full and Head drives it through covers. He flicks the final delivery to deep fine leg for a single.

Siraj again. The first delivery is on a good length, at the off-and-middle line, Marnus defends. Siraj goes slightly short and into the body, Marnus tucks it away for a single to the square leg region. Sharp bounce on the third, takes the shoulder of the bat and goes to backward point, a single taken. He returns to the off stump line and targets the stumps, forcing Marnus to defend. FOUR runs, too full and Marnus on drives. The ball slows down before hitting the fence but the pair runs four nonetheless.

Bumrah to Smith. He is getting the ball to seam in from outside the off stump, Smith thorough in his defence. Another no ball from India. That’s the only run from the over.

Siraj starts with a no ball. Marnus blocks the first two deliveries. Siraj is slightly fuller today than he was on Day 1. That’s forcing Marnus to not shoulder arms. An edge on the final delivery but it dies down as it goes to the gully fielder.

Australia saw the light on a Friday night. At a packed Adelaide Oval and on a rather unusual day in which the expected rains stayed away while the floodlights malfunctioned twice, the host scored 86 for one in reply to India’s first innings score of 180.

The second Test’s opening day was a tale of two parts. The first revealed a vulnerable Indian stint and the second highlighted Australia’s desire to fight back in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, in which the host trails by 0-1. 

Australian openers Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney survived the first 10 overs before Jasprit Bumrah caused the initial breach. Khawaja redirected a Bumrah special to Rohit Sharma at first slip. A twitchy Marnus Labuschagne then survived an inquisition from Bumrah before finding his voice.

McSweeney too freed his earlier dour arms and that found an echo through Labuschagne’s bat as the 62-run unbeaten second-wicket partnership took shape. Pat Cummins and his men would perhaps believe that they are marginally ahead even if they still have a 94-run deficit to clear.

Hello and welcome to Day 2 of the 2nd Test between India and Australia at the Adelaide Oval. We are all set for a gripping day of cricket under the lights.
