Kanpur: A married couple together consumed poison due to household conflicts in Chilhta Dera in the limits of Muskara police station in Hamirpur district on Saturday.
When their health started deteriorating, they were shifted to the district hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead.
The police have kept the bodies in the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination. The relatives were unable to provide any explanation for their actions.
Jagdishwar (60) and his wife Ramkali (55), who lived in Chilhta Dera, consumed pesticide tablets at their house on Saturday, which resulted in their severe medical condition. Their relatives transported them to Muskara Community Health Centre, where Dr Manulika Verma provided initial care before referring them to the district hospital owing to their critical condition. The couple succumbed before reaching the hospital, and the medical staff confirmed their death upon arrival. tnn
