Thiruvananthapuram: The state human rights commission (SHRC) ordered a comprehensive inquiry on Friday into the incident in which a disabled student was beaten up by SFI activists at the University College.
The city police commissioner and director of collegiate education were asked to hold a probe and submit a report in a month. Commission chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas also said that two senior officers must appear before the commission when the case is considered on Jan 14.
The officers were directed to take the statements of the student and were also urged to provide details of the incident in the report. The commission was considering a plea submitted by the victim.
According to the complaint, SFI members had told the victim Muhammed Anas, 19, a second-year BA Islamic student, to climb a tree to erect party flags. However, he could not do it due to his physical disadvantage. Following it, he was subjected to body shaming and was dragged into the union room and was brutally assaulted by the accused on Monday. They also kicked his leg with the disability.
The accused, Chand, Midhun, and Alan Jamal, third-year philosophy students, and second-year PG zoology student Vidhu Udaya, are absconding, said police. "The search for them has been intensified in various angles and they will be nabbed soon," said police.
