Thiruvananthapuram: In a tragic incident, a senior manager of Kerala Bank's East Fort branch was killed after being trapped between two buses on Friday noon.
The deceased was identified by police as Ullas, 52, of Galaxy at Venpalakkara near Valathungal, Kollam.
The accident occurred when he came out of the bank to offer prayers at a nearby mosque. A private bus and a KSRTC bus were halted at the signal, in front of the private bus stand at that time. As he was crossing the road, the signal turned green and the private bus suddenly turned towards the right from the left side of the KSRTC bus to take a U-turn. At the same time the KSRTC driver also moved ahead. Ullas, who was in front of the KSRTC bus had no room to step away and got trapped between both the buses.
He was rushed to Fort taluk hospital but his life could not be saved. In the preliminary postmortem findings, it was revealed that the death was due to internal bleeding. His chest was completely damaged, informed police. He is survived by his wife Sunija, 44, a Secretariat employee, and son Amal, 22.
KSRTC bus driver Sebastian, 55, of Idukki, and private bus driver Azin, 30, of Thiruvallam were taken into custody. A case was registered against them under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 106 (1) for causing death by negligence and 281 for rash or negligent driving on public roads. Since both the sections are bailable, the accused were released on station bail.
