Gurgaon: A shift in weather is likely over the weekend as the city is predicted to witness fog and experience light rainfall. As western disturbances begin to impact the region, a break will be provided from the dry spell which the city has witnessed since monsoon withdrew in late Sept. The last time it received rainfall was on Sept 18.
On Friday, there was a clear sky with light breeze, and the minimum temperature rose slightly to 9.7 degrees Celsius from the previous day's 9.2 degrees Celsius. It was a notch above the season's normal. The daytime temperature was recorded at 24.2 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's normal. It was 24.4 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the western disturbance will influence the western Himalayan region and adjoining plains. It may bring light rainfall to isolated parts of Haryana, including Gurgaon, on Sunday and Monday. Additionally, a yellow alert was issued for dense fog across several parts of the state, predicting reduced visibility during late-night and early-morning hours over the next three days.
"A fresh western disturbance is approaching and may start influencing the plains from Dec 8. This may cause rainfall over parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on Monday and Tuesday. While we are not expecting any change in minimum temperature over the next two days, it will rise by a degree or two during the subsequent two days. After the passage of the system and change in wind direction to northerlies, the temperature will start falling again," an IMD official said.
On Saturday, fog is likely to prevail in the morning, but the afternoon is predicted to be clear and sunny. The minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 9 and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively.
